Bloodwork Services

Blood tests are important diagnostic tools for determining your pet's health status.

Bloodwork is a diagnostic tool that helps us understand what’s happening inside your pet’s body. Though external symptoms can be an indication of internal issues, the best way to get an accurate diagnosis is through tests like bloodwork. Bloodwork is also helpful at detecting early signs of an illness before it has the chance to manifest as issues in your pet’s body.

What does bloodwork detect?

Bloodwork, like a Complete Blood Count, helps detect your pet’s white blood cell count (sign of immune system health), red blood cells (sign of hydration), which helps identify an infection. A Complete Blood Chemistry Panel will help us see how well their liver, kidney, pancreas and other body functions are working. Other bloodwork tests might identify how specific parts of their body are working, like the thyroid. If you have questions about your pet’s upcoming bloodwork, don’t hesitate to contact us at 204-488-1843.

When might a veterinarian request bloodwork?

Our veterinary team might recommend bloodwork for a few reasons, including:

  • Routine testing – during your pet’s wellness exam, we might do bloodwork to have accurate and up-to-date information about your pet’s health
  • Preventative testing – it’s important to detect some diseases before symptoms occur to ensure we have the best chance to treating it
  • Sickness – if your pet is showing signs of illness, our veterinary team might use bloodwork to support a diagnosis they’ve identified or give insight into your pet’s internal health so we can develop the best course of action
  • Preanesthetic testing – if your pet is scheduled for a surgery where they have to go under anesthesia, testing helps us to ensure your pet will have a safe procedure, so they don’t react negatively to this medicine

Will it hurt my pet?

Taking blood samples from furry friends is a process we try to make as seamless and pain-free as possible. To prepare them, it’s helpful to let your pet fast and arrive on an empty stomach. Before their bloodwork, we will go over a thorough list of do’s and don’ts, so you understand how to prepare them.
