How does deworming work?

Depending on the parasite, your pet’s stool sample will be examined under a microscope to spot worms. Deworming medicine kills larvae and adult worms living inside your pet’s intestines. It might come in the form of an oral medicine you’ll help your pet to take by closely following our veterinary team’s instructions. One dose might not be enough to remove all of the parasites, so our veterinary team might recommend multiple. In addition to deworming, a parasite control plan, including a preventative, is a great way to protect your pet against pesky parasites.

Why is it important?

Untreated internal parasites can negatively impact your pet’s health. For example, if larvae make their way to your pet’s intestines, it can cause complications like skin issues, muscle spasms and damage to internal organs. Over time, as the intestines lose their ability to effectively absorb nutrients, your pet could experience excessive weight loss, anemia, dehydration and is even fatal in some cases.
